Fred Sherry

Cellist Fred Sherry has introduced audiences on five continents and all fifty United States to the music of our time through his close association with such composers as Milton Babbitt, Elliott Carter, Mario Davidovsky, Lukas Foss, Oliver Knussen, Peter Lieberson, Steve Mackey, Toru Takemitsu, Charles Wuorinen and John Zorn. He has been a member of the Group for Contemporary Music, Luciano Berio’s Juilliard Ensemble, the Galimir String Quartet and a collaborator with jazz pianist and composer Chick Corea. Mr. Sherry was a founding member of Speculum Musicae and Tashi, has been an Artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center since 1984, and he was the creator and director of “A Great Day in New York.”  His vast catalogue of recordings can be heard on a variety of labels including Naxos, Nonesuch, Tzadik, RCA, Columbia and Bridge. Fred Sherry is on the faculty of the Mannes College of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Juilliard School.  His book “The Bach Method” will be released in 2011 by Boosey & Hawkes.
