Voxnova

VOXNOVA is a vocal ensemble for contemporary music and the music which directly inspired it. Founded in 1992 by bass baritone Nicholas Isherwood, they sing primarily the a cappella repertoire from the solo to the sextet. Its singers have also performed all of the roles in Victor Ullmann’s opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis, produced by 2e2m, at the Pompidou Centre in Paris and on tour. The group has sung with instrumental ensembles such as the Arditti Quartet, l’Itinéraire and 2e2m. VOXNOVA has given concerts in venues such as IRCAM, the Pompidou Centre, Radio France, and Royaumont (France); Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amsterdam (Holland); Ars Musica (Brussels, Belgium); Settembre Musica, Nuova Consonanza and Romaeuropa (Italy); Alicante and Zaragossa (Spain); the radio stations of Cologne (WDR), Halle (MDR), Frankfurt (Hessischer Rundfunk) and Ludwigshafen (Südwestfunk), as well as the Schreyahn Festival and the Deutsche Oper Berlin (Germany); and the Huddersfield Festival (Great Britain). In 1995, they gave an Asian Tour (Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan). VOXNOVA has performed numerous world premieres, notably by composers Luis De Pablo, Pascal Dusapin, Luca Francesconi, Suzanne Giraud, Paul Mefano and Giacinto Scelsi. The ensemble has recorded CDs for Hat Hut, 2e2m and Adda and has recently begun a collection with Mode Records. VOXNOVA is in residence at UPIC, an electroacoustic music center whose president is Iannis Xenakis. They have just finished their first Paris Season at the Cité Internationale des Arts.
