Jussi Jaatinen

Jussi Jaatinen (b. 1974 in Espoo, Finland) studied violin and music-theory in the Sibelius-Academy in Helsinki.  In 1998 he moved to the Netherlands to study orchestral conducting in the Rotterdam’s Conservatoire under direction of Jurjen Hempel and Ernst van Tiel. He completed his diploma in 2002 with outstanding result, conducting Brahms’ Violin Concerto and Sibelius’ 7th Symphony with the orchestra of the conservatoire. He studied further in the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, and in the South-Netherlands College for Music under direction of Jac van Steen.  In 2005 he conducted his examination-concert of advanced professional music-education with the Brabant’s Orchestra with music of Saint-Saëns and Dukas.

Jussi Jaatinen has been invited to attend master-classes by Peter Eötvös in Acanthes, by professor Jorma Panula in Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and in Konstanz, and by Lucas Vis with the Brabant’s Orchestra.

In the last two years he has been regularly conducting ensemble’s and orchestras as the Asko Ensemble, Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra, Istanbul Symphony Orchestra, Holland Symfonia, North-Netherland’s Orchestra, Gaida Ensemble (Vilnius), Orkest de Volharding, The Hague Percussion Ensemble, Doelen Ensemble, Das Neue Ensemble (Hannover), Champ d’Action (Antwerpen), and the Orchestra of Zeeland.  He has also regularly worked as a conductor in the conservatoires of The Netherlands, such as Royal Conservatorium of The Hague, Rotterdam’s Conservatoire, Fonty’s School of Music, and Utrecht’s Conservatorium.

His repertoire covers the standard orchestral repertoire and he is also keenly working with contemporary music, conducting already a vast amount of  première’s of new compositions.  He has worked with artists as David Geringas, Irvine Arditti, Miranda van Kralingen, Johannette Zomer, Geoffrey Douglas Madge, and Tommi Hakala.

In 2004 he was awarded with the Anton Kersjes van Groenekan conductor’s prize.  In January 2006 he began as principajussijaatinenl conductor of Orchestra The Volharding in Amsterdam and as chief-conductor of the Chamber Orchestra Pulcinella in Utrecht and also the Utrecht’s Wind Ensemble and Domstad Youth Orchestra.  In September 2008 he was appointed as the chief-conductor of the Nieuw Kamer Orkest, and also the Wagening’s Symphony Orchestra and the HAK-choir.

In 2008 he was intived to be the principal conductor of the orchestra class at the Conservatory of Utrecht and also he was appointed to become the main-subject teacher orchestral-conducting.

In the future, next to his regular orchestras, he has engagements with the Rotterdam’s Philharmonic Orchestra, Arnhem Philharmonic, and the Orchestra of Zeeland.
