Colette Broeckaert

Colette Broeckaert (Ghent, Belgium, 1982) holds a master in philosophy, specialising on the relation between music and philosophy in the 20th century, and studied piano with Daan Vandewalle. She developed an enthusiasm for new music in his courses and in consecutive masterclasses with Leon Fleisher, Geoffrey Madge, Luk Vaes, Jean-Guihen Queyras and Serge Verstockt. In the past years she has often performed with Nadarensemble and Tiptoe Company.

More recently, she performed the electronic music of Bernard Parmegiani, in a trio formation with Sebastian Berweck and Martin Lorenz. At the same time, she expanded her skills in the field of improvisation and sound art in collaboration with sound artist Inge van den Kroonenberg (duo Colinot) and artist A. De Causmaecker (QFWFQ). She was artist in residence at LOD Muziektheater and PostX and is member of the Denderland artist collective. In her current solo projects, Broeckaert attempts to connect sound, image and text in different constellations, thereby rethinking performance and repertoire.

Apart from music, Colette Broeckaert had several shows as a visual artist and co-founded ‘het balanseer’, a highly acclaimed Belgian publishing house for experimental literature. She teaches piano, experimental music and philosophy of music in Ghent, Belgium.
