Lei Liang

Lei Liang (b.1972) is a Chinese-born American composer of mostly stage and chamber works that have been performed throughout the world. He studied composition with Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Robert Cogan, Chaya Czernowin, Joshua Fineberg, and Mario Davidovsky, and received degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music (BM and MM) and Harvard University (PhD). He has received commissions from the New York Philharmonic, the Manhattan Sinfonietta, the Fromm Music Foundation, the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust, among others. As a scholar, he is active in the preservation and research of traditional Asian music. Since 2007, Lei Liang has served as Assistant Professor of Music at the University of California, San Diego.
