Susanne Zapf

Susanne Zapf

Susanne Zapf, born in Thuringia/Germany, studied the violin with Ilan Gronich in Berlin, Grigory Zhislin in London, and Keiko Wataya in Amsterdam.

Her particular leaning towards chamber music, participating in symphony orchestras and her work in the Sonar Quartett have given many facets to her musicianship. In her view, there is no contradiction between embracing the historical performance practice of the Baroque and Classical periods, exploring free improvisation, participating in multi media projects, and performing contemporary music. She regulary appears as a guest artist at such widely known festivals in Germany, The Netherlands, France, Belgium, England, Austria, Greece, Czechia, Spain and Korea. She has given world premieres of many solo and chamber music works and is recipient of the Kranichstein Performer’s Prize.

Susanne Zapf is member of the Sonar Quartett, the Thürmchen Ensemble Cologne and plays regularly with guitarist Hubert Steiner.

CD projects include recordings on Wergo, Mode Records, Cybele and Kairos Records.
